Hand woven Suzanis are an ancient craft from varying regions of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries. Historically, they are created by women, when a member of the family is getting married for her dowry. In more recent times, the demand for these beautiful, timeless and unique pieces has increased and we now see regions of Uzbekistan creating gorgeous Suzani's for the world to enjoy.
Each Suzani has a 'meaning' or a 'story' as to why it was made or created, which is why I fell in love with them in the first place. For something to be created by the whimsical and often fantastical imaginings of the crafters minds-eye before a silk thread is even cast, is such a beautiful thought.
Be sure to understand the meaning behind the Suzani you buy, so you can hold an exquisite, whimsical story in your possession forever.
